On December 2, 2003, ANSI announced a new partnership with EPA to introduce ANSI-accredited Standards Developers to the topic of Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP). A Power Point presentation available from ANSI on line demonstrates how the use of EPP provisions can help protect the environment and reflect life-cycle concerns. ANSI's support for EPP is expected to foster development of standards incorporating environmental and life cycle elements so that these standards can be referenced and/or recommended as the basis for both public and private sector purchasing decisions.
