Innovative Federal Pollution Prevention Partnership RecognizedOn September 18, in the Senate Hart Office Building, the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable presented their 2002 Most Valuable Pollution Prevention Awards to twelve organizations for their innovative P2 work. The National Park Service's Intermountain Region and the Environmental Protection Agency's Region 8 were recognized for their strong environmental leadership and partnership. Together, these two agencies have provided training, technology, and tools to 81 parks in the Intermountain Region. The parks are using these resources to go beyond compliance and create sustainable park environments. Several parks have adopted environmental management systems, with many adopting pollution prevention programs that already have made significant reductions. John Howard, the Federal Environmental Executive, assisted in handing out the awards:
I was particularly impressed in reading the applications - remembering that the federal government is working to increase its use of robust environmental management systems - to see so many applicants and winners - yes, I believe there is a connection - using environmental management systems.
