Pesticide Reduction

Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington reduced the use of toxic chemicals by promoting the use of less- or non-toxic substitutes. For instance, Fairchild uses biological control methods including bugs to control noxious weeds on the base in place of pesticides. As a result, Fairchild achieved a 54 percent reduction in pesticide use and eliminated pesticide use on more than 1,000 acres of base land, including 300 acres of wetlands.
