Strategies
and Best Practices
There are many strategies and best practices for reducing the volume or
toxicity of wastes created. Redesign, Practice Modification, Reuse of
Products, Materials and Containers, and Organic Material Management are
all effective strategies. For specific examples of these strategies in
use at Federal facilities, see examples under Success Stories.
Success Stories
The following are examples of waste prevention initiatives undertaken
by Federal facilities and installations. The Office of the Federal
Environmental Executive awarded a Closing the Circle Award to many of
these facilities for their innovative waste prevention practices.
